When

2024

For over 50 years, I have been concerned about the state of our world. The context changes but the theme remains constant. Using the vehicle of Surrealism, I make work to challenge and intrigue. My paintings are unashamedly political, representing a dystopian future, though with playful prophecies. I paint classical architecture, such as aqueducts and towers, to allude to the fact that our environmental challenges have a long genesis.

People have been manipulating nature since the development of agriculture ten thousand years ago. My landscapes have skies that conjure memories of acid rain. I use fish for their resilience: the barramundi are strong survivors who can live in either fresh or salt waters. Perhaps to continue their survival they may need to live in no water at all.

Above all, my work is a celebration of our resilience and our ability to remain undefeated when things seem at their most bleak.
